Labour protection and equitable treatment
Employers must ensure that working conditions are safe. Every place of work should have a Head of Labour Protection appointed by the employer, and a Labour Protection Delegate elected by the employees. All employees are covered by the Employment Accidents Act (608/1948). Supervisors must be notified immediately of all work-related accidents. Insurance compensation is also payable for occupational diseases.
The employer must treat the employees equitably, and may not discriminate against an employee, for example on grounds of age, sex, ethnic origin, language, religion, trade union activity or political opinion. This means that an employee may not be paid less than a colleague of differing sex or ethnic origin doing the same or equivalent work.
