All the Finnish central organisations for
trade unions, ie SAK, STTK and AKAVA are affiliated to ICFTU, and each of these will be
represented at the Durban Congress. SAK is entitled to six delegates, STTK to four and
AKAVA to two. The SAK delegation will consist of Mr
Lauri Ihalainen, the President of SAK; Ms Tuulikki Kannisto, SAK Director and Head of the
International Department; Ms Maj-Len Remahl, the President of the Union of Commercial
Employees, who is also the President of FIET; Ms Tuire Santamäki-Vuori, the Deputy
President of the Trade Union for the Municipal Sector; Mr Pekka Hynönen, the President of
the Construction Trade Union and Mr Jarmo Lähteenmäki, who is the President of the
Paperworkers' Union.
Ms Marjaana Valkonen, Development Manager; Ms Riitta
Partinen, Equal Opportunities Secretary; Mr Turo Bergman, International Secretary, and Ms
Hilkka Jukarainen, International Information Officer, will attend the Congress as SAK
advisers. The provision of information on international trade union affairs, and
particularly on international solidarity, features strongly in the SAK agenda. The Editor
of the SAK newspaper, 'Palkkatyöläinen', has usually attended the ICFTU Congresses, and
therefore this tradition will be continued by Mr Eero Kosonen, the Editor, travelling to
Durban. A number of Finnish journalists will also make their way to South Africa.
The STTK delegates to the Congress will be Mr Mikko
Mäenpää, the STTK President; Ms Jaana Laitinen-Pesola, the President of Tehy, the Union
of Health and Social Care Services; Ms Katriina Perkka-Jortikka, the President of the
Federation of Municipal Officers and Mr Martti Reuna, the Head of the International
Affairs Department of STTK. Ms Pirkko Nikula, the International Secretary of STTK will
attend the Congress as an adviser.
The AKAVA delegates will be Mr Risto Piekka, the President
of AKAVA, and Ms Eila Malmström, the President of the Union of Professional Social
Workers. The Congress will also be attended by Mr Markus Penttinen, the Head of the
International Department of AKAVA, in the capacity of adviser.
