The 16th Congress of SAK will be held from 28th May to 30th
May 2001 in Helsinki. The preparations for the Congress have already been commenced. The
SAK Executive Council has nominated three working groups for the drafting of the Congress
agenda. It has been provisionally decided that draft agendas will be drafted on bargaining
policy, on the more general goals of SAK and on the future of the trade union movement.
The first working group will be chaired by Mr Lauri Ihalainen, the President of SAK, the
second by Mr Pekka Ahmavaara, Director of SAK, and the third by Eero Heinäluoma, Head of
Department. The International Department of SAK will participate in the work of all three
working groups.Another trade union central
organisation, STTK the Finnish Confederation of Salaried Employees, will also hold
its Congress in the year 2001. The STTK Congress will be held in the autumn, on 25th
and 26th October. SAK holds its Congress at five year intervals and the STTK
every four years.
