KTV, the Municipal Sector Trade Union, makes history

Ms Tuire Santamäki-Vuori, PhD chosen as Vice President

The largest SAK affiliated union, the municipal sector KTV, has chosen 46 year old Tuire Santamäki-Vuori, PhD (Econ) as its Vice President. Ms Santamäki-Vuori has worked as the Research Director of the Employees' Research Institute since 1991, prior to which she occupied a variety of posts at the Institute, for example on two separate occasions being the Deputy Director.

Ms Santamäki-Vuori is one of the foremost labour market researchers in Finland. She has been exceptionally productive in her research work on the operation of the labour market, unemployment, wages and salaries, social security, labour market policies, etc. Her work has also been widely published.

Her nomination to this post means that, for the first time in the history of the Administrative Council of SAK, there will now be a Council member with a doctorate.

The post of Vice President of KTV, the largest SAK affiliated union (230,000 members: 71 % women, 29 % men) became vacant when the previous holder of this post, Ms Eija Lehto-Kannisto, LLM, departed to take up a new position as the Deputy Managing Director of Municipal Pensions Insurance. The present KTV President, Mr Jouni Riskilä, is due to retire in a couple of years time, when it is expected that Ms Santamäki-Vuori will take his place as the President of the Union.
